5 Types of Endangered Birds in Endangered Indonesia - As a country with the largest tropical rainforest habitat in the world, Indonesia is a country rich in natural and biological resources. Exotic species of flora and fauna can be found all over the country. Unfortunately this is not understood by the Indonesian nation. Appreciation of this natural wealth is still lacking.
Indonesia has many species of rare birds that some have even been declared extinct by some ornithologists. This happens because of the rapid rate of forest destruction coupled with the catching of large-scale birds to be traded.
Of the 1,598 species of Indonesian birds, 121 species are already threatened with extinction. Rare species of birds vary. Starting from the type of water birds, honey birds, to fruit eaters. Here are some of the endangered species of Indonesian rare birds:
1. Bird King Kuau
This bird lives in the area of primary forest that is still very natural. These birds are rarely found in disturbed forest areas. This bird can be found on peninsulas Malaysia, Borneo, and Sumatra. Forest destruction and unregulated trade are responsible for the scarcity of this bird species.
2. Mentok Rimba
Mentok jungle is a type of bird from the duck family. His body looks very similar to the entok that is often maintained by the community. However, the jungle can fly and can only live in an environment that is still natural. In Indonesia, it is estimated that the number is only about 150 tails. This bird lives on the island of Sumatra, especially in Way Kambas National Park, Lampung.
3. Bird Kehicap Boano
This bird is an endemic bird on the island of Buano, Maluku, not found elsewhere. Currently the number is estimated only about 200-tail only. Unfortunately, boano boo birds have not been included in the list of protected bird species.
4. Javanese Eagle
Birds that are identical with the symbol of the Indonesian state are animals that are protected because they are threatened with extinction. Endemic birds on the island of Java are scarce because of their limited habitat.
5. The Crow Banggai
Birds from this crow family are already very endangered. Previously, even the Crow Banggai bird had been declared extinct, but then this species was found in Peleng Island, Central Sulawesi.
There are many other rare bird species that are critically endangered or threatened. Without public awareness to protect the environment and wildlife, thousands of these exotic bird species will not survive. Hopefully with this information, rare birds in Indonesia that are endangered we can protect together.
